Tell EPA We Need Critical Climate Protections

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin is hoping to mark a big milestone in Trump’s “Polluters First Agenda” by repealing the Endangerment Finding. This 2009 determination upholds the EPA’s requirement to protect Americans from the pollution causing the climate crisis, and it provides the authority for nearly every such protection at the federal level. By proposing to rescind it, Zeldin is denying the danger of our changing climate, even as it stokes a public health crisis right in front of our eyes.

I urge the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to maintain the Endangerment Finding, which requires the EPA to protect people from climate pollution. Pollution from cars, trucks, buses, power plants and other sources drives extreme weather and climate change, and threatens our health. The Endangerment Finding is the backbone for nearly every climate pollution protection enacted at the federal level, from cleaner car and truck standards to power plant standards. It also reflects a longstanding scientific consensus, supported by thousands of peer-reviewed studies: greenhouse gases harm our health by worsening climate change. The Endangerment Finding is a commitment to the health and safety of our loved ones, our communities, and our future generations. Without it, our air quality will worsen, temperatures will rise, and extreme weather events will increase in frequency, harming Americans. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin promised clean air and water for all Americans, and EPA’s mission is indeed to protect human health and the environment. However, rolling back the Endangerment Finding would allow fossil fuel companies to pump out climate pollution at will. Ultimately, the burden of higher healthcare costs from worsened health outcomes and higher consumer costs from more unstable and extreme weather will fall on the American people. The bottom line is that Americans overwhelmingly support protections against pollution and reject this Climate Chaos Plan. The Endangerment Finding must remain in place if the EPA were to maintain its mission and protect the health and wellbeing of all Americans. Thank you.
