Clean Air Council and members of OurSolarPA recently delivered a letter to Pennsylvania State Senators, urging them to support community solar by supporting House Bill 1842. This bill will allow Pennsylvanians to receive the benefits of solar energy even if they are not able to install solar panels themselves. Community solar will create jobs, provide households and businesses with a diversified mix of energy choices, reduce air pollution, and lower energy costs.
Community solar would make solar energy accessible to more Pennsylvanians by removing the barrier to access if residents are restricted by housing type or situation. It would allow anyone who pays an electric bill to participate in the benefits of solar energy without installing their own onsite system. Customers could subscribe to a larger community solar facility and then receive a credit on their utility bill for the electricity generated.
Luckily, HB 1842 passed the House with bipartisan support and is now awaiting further action in the Senate. We need your help to get this bill over the finish line.
