Dear Friend, After years of tireless advocacy from people like you, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just finalized its long-awaited methane air pollution standards for new and existing oil and gas facilities. This rule includes updated pollution control requirements at well sites and compressor stations and new inspection standards that will require the gas industry to find and fix leaks faster, protecting impacted communities from several types of dangerous air pollution. The rule also includes a “Super Emitter Program” that will allow certified third-party air monitoring specialists to report pollution events directly to the EPA. EPA will then notify pollution sources and require them to locate and repair malfunctioning equipment. This program and other aspects of the rule will protect impacted communities from local air pollution events. States are now required to draft plans detailing how these new air pollution standards will be implemented on the ground. Please attend our informational webinar that will detail individual aspects of the rule and how residents can get involved in the rule’s implementation. Clean Air Council, PennEnvironment and Protect Penn-Trafford staff will speak about their work reducing air pollution in Pennsylvania and how the EPA's newly finalized methane standards will reduce greenhouse gas and carcinogenic air pollution in the Keystone State. Speakers will discuss different aspects of the rule and explain the process for Pennsylvania's implementation. Click here to register for the webinar on Wednesday, December 20th from 2-3PM. If you cannot attend, please register so you can receive a recording of the webinar.
