Hi friend, Yesterday, the Pennsylvania Senate passed the dirty industry permitting bill known as Senate Bill 832 (“SB 832”) after last minute amendments resulted in a party line vote. If SB 832 becomes law, it will take permitting authority from Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection (“DEP”) and grant it to a newly created Independent Energy Authority at unknown, unnecessary cost to taxpayers. Additionally, SB 832 would: - Allow the fossil fuel and petrochemical industries greater ability to sidestep critical public health protections in the project approval process (such as DEP permit review),
- Give development corporations waivers from state regulations that protect our public health and environment, and
- Allow fast tracking of large-scale dirty energy projects.
In short, SB 832 is designed to help fossil fuel and petrochemical corporations deploy their dirty facilities in Pennsylvania faster and cheaper. This is bad news for our health and our environment. Clean Air Action is monitoring SB 832 and the legislators who vote for it, and will include the results in our annual legislative scorecard that we distribute to our members and the press. We must make our voices heard as this ill-conceived legislation goes to the House and ensure that the dirty industry permitting bill never gets closer to becoming law. Tell your Pennsylvania House Representative to vote NO on SB 832 today. Thank you, Sean G. Hoffmann Legislative Director Clean Air Action Fund | |
